What is low self-esteem
After a setback, it’s tough not to be hard on yourself. But for some, low self-esteem is a persistent feeling that haunts them with the constant reminder:

Low self-esteem is not just an internal problem; it impacts your everyday life. Limiting beliefs hold you back from developing healthy relationships, pursuing your passions, and becoming the best version of yourself.

“YOU ARE NOT GOOD ENOUGH”. It’s a negative sentiment people feel about themselves, and it follows them wherever they go.

If you have low self-esteem, you may feel like you’re never enough. You worry that you don’t deserve the love other people give you, and your inner voice is constantly criticizing you.
So, what is self-esteem? It’s the way you perceive yourself. Self-esteem refers to the beliefs you hold about your value, abilities, and worth. The key word here is “self”; it’s about how you feel about yourself.

Do you struggle with low self-esteem? At One Life, we offer effective counselling treatments that help you see your worth and break negative thought patterns. Here’s how we can help:

What Are Some of the Symptoms of Low Self-Esteem?

Low self-esteem can affect many aspects of your life. It can hinder your performance at work or school, interfere with your relationships, and rob you of the happiness you deserve.

How do you see yourself? If you struggle with low self-esteem, you might:
  • Diminish your accomplishments
  • Feel inadequate
  • Struggle to build healthy relationships
  • Deal with depression or anxiety
  • Criticize yourself harshly for your mistakes
  • Believe that you are not worthy of being loved
  • Overthink what others are thinking
Your self-perception is as unique as you are. We’ve listed the most common symptoms above, but low self-esteem looks different for everyone. If you’re concerned you may deal with this issue, we recommend talking to a therapist.

Can Counselling Help With Low Self-Esteem?

Have you struggled with a lack of confidence for years? You might feel stuck—like your mind is unchangeable.  But you aren’t doomed to deal with low self-worth or negative self-talk. Through counselling, you can learn how to challenge your inner dialogue and build self-esteem.  Healthy self-esteem is within your reach. It’s entirely possible to overcome negative beliefs and create a positive sense of self. The first step is finding a professional therapist. Through counselling, you can:
  • Challenge negative self-talk
  • Let go of the old image of yourself
  • Learn to forgive yourself
  • Build your self-esteem and confidence
  • Create healthy relationships
Relationships take work, from the ones you have with your parents to your colleagues at work. But how much time and effort do you put into the relationship with yourself? Improve your confidence and develop a more positive outlook with self-esteem counselling.

What Therapy Is Used for Self-Esteem?

Low self-esteem rarely resolves itself on its own. Without help, it will continue to negatively impact your life. Change the way you perceive yourself with our counselling services

At One Life, we offer self-esteem counselling in Calgary, AB. Through professional treatment, a therapist can help you identify the cause of your self-esteem issues.

From there, you can explore the thought patterns and behaviours that contribute to the problem. Then, you can learn new coping strategies to challenge those beliefs and recognize your worth.

What Kind of Therapist Do I Need for Low Self-Esteem?

The right therapist is different for everyone.  When you contact One Life Counselling & Coaching, we hand-pick the best psychotherapist for your needs.

How Can I Rebuild My Self-Esteem?

Your limiting beliefs are holding you back, and you’re ready to overcome them. How do you do it?

You know counselling can help. But if you’re looking for a way to start right now, here’s one exercise you can try:

Imagine that instead of talking to yourself, you were talking to a close friend. How would you respond if they told you the same thoughts you have about yourself? Most likely, you would show them compassion and support.

Now, try to treat yourself with the same love and respect that you give to others. It’s more powerful than you think.

Through self-esteem counselling, you’ll receive the professional help you need to build confidence and improve your self-esteem.

With the right support, you can reach a point where you have secure self-esteem. You’ll be your authentic self and won’t be held back by a lack of confidence. When you make mistakes, you’ll recognize what went wrong and forgive yourself. You’ll feel comfortable communicating your boundaries and pursuing your passions.
